Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Bruges, Liège and Brussels waffle?
A Bruges waffle comes from Bruges, is made with 100% natural ingredients, and represents a healthier version of the Belgian waffle. It’s made with fresh, liquid batter according to a unique recipe from our own workshop. The Bruges waffle has a distinctive shape that evokes the typical Bruges lace. It’s slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Unlike the Liège waffle, it’s not overloaded with sugar and has a slightly caramelized flavor thanks to the use of natural, unrefined coconut blossom sugar. The Bruges waffle is suitable for everyone because it’s gluten-free and dairy-free. There’s even a plant-based option available. It’s easy to eat on the go and, unlike the Brussels waffle, doesn’t require any extra (sweet) toppings. You can only experience a true Bruges waffle at Otto Waffle Atelier in Bruges.
Can people with celiac disease eat the Bruges waffle?
Absolutely. Our batter is made with certified gluten-free oats, making it suitable for people with gluten intolerances or celiac disease.
Can people with an egg allergy eat a Bruges waffle?
Yes, we can offer a plant-based waffle upon request. However, please note that the waffle is baked in the same iron as our regular waffles, so there may be traces of egg.
Are there seats?
No. You can eat your waffle inside our shop at standing tables with a beautiful view of the Bruges canals.
Can we reserve a table?
No, since there are no seats available, reservations cannot be made.
Are there toilets?
No. We don’t have restrooms. The nearest public restroom is in the Gruuthuse Museum.
Do you organize waffle baking workshops?
No, for practical reasons we cannot offer workshops.
